Romania was one of the East European countries which was ruled by the communist party for more than 40 years. The most important figure was Nicolae Ceausescu, who developed the ideology during his long dictatorship.
The communism shaped not only the city but also the peoples mentality and life. Still, after 25 years, the democracy changed the face of the city and also our most important treasure – the people and their liberty.
The Communism Tour will start at your hotel.
In this tour we will uncover Nicolae Ceausescu’s plan, the way he dreamed to change the city.
We will visit one of his greatest achievements: the second largest building in the world – the Palace of the Parliament, or how we, Romanian call it – the House of the People.
Also, we will discover the civic center and some grey neighbourhoods.
During the tour you will listen to some of the most interesting stories and legends about buildings and churches that were destroyed or moved away so that the new city can be shaped. It will be upon yourself to decide where ends the reality and starts the legend.
In our journey we will see the Revolution Square, the place where Ceausescu held his last speech and then head towards The National Military Museum where we will uncover even more scenes behind the Revolution from 1989.
The tour will end with a visit at Ghencea Graveyard, where the tomb of Ceausescu couple is.
