For those of you who choose Romania as a destination for spending quality time, as well as to discover our culture, history and traditions, we’ve prepared a tour combining perfectly those elements.
We invite you to Archia Mansion Boutique Hotel, a beautiful place where nature blends perfectly with the comfort and high-class services offered. The Mansion itself is a wonderful place that holds a great variety of outdoor activities like horse riding, swimming or simply relaxing by the pool or enjoying a game of tennis on the courts from the foot of Deva Fortress. We would recommend you also check Archia’s surroundings to find out more about Romania and its history starting with the Dacians.
Departing from your city of arrival, the first day is all about the trip to Deva, where you will discover the Archia Mansion and its beauties. You will have a fair amount of time to adjust with the atmosphere of the area before the busy days that follow.
This day we’ll be visiting Sarmizegetuza Regia and Sarmizegetuza Ulpia, both former capitals of Dacia, one before the the Roman occupation and the second one after.
Sarmizegetusa Regia was the capital and the most important military, religious and political centre of the Dacians prior the wars with the Roman Empire. Erected on top of a 1200m high mountain, the fortress, comprising six citadels, was the core of a strategic defensive system in the Orăştie Mountains. Sarmizegetusa Regia should not be confused with Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa, our next destination.
The Roman capital of Dacia built by Roman Emperor Trajan some 40 km away, Sarmizegetusa Ulpia, was discovered earlier and it was initially mistaken for the Dacian capital, a confusion which led to incorrect conclusions being made regarding the military history and organization of the Dacians.
As a final stop of the day, we will also go on top of the volcanic hill that holds the Deva Fortress. Dating back to the second half of the 13th century, in 1269, the fortress still watches over the surrounding area.
Corvin Castle, also known as Hunyadi Castle, (Romanian: Castelul Huniazilor or Castelul Corvinilor) is the medieval citadel of the city Hunedoara and represents one of the most important pieces of Gothic Architecture in the country. It is considered to be one of the largest and most beautiful castle in the world, being part of the “top 10 Fairy Tale destinations in Europe”.
In case there is any time left and the group chooses so, we could also visit The Govăjdia Blast Furnace, today a disused blast furnace in Govăjdia village. Its most intense period of production took place between 1871 and 1889, when metal prepared there was used for raw material in the building of the now famous Eiffel Tower.
After checking the surrounding for two days, it is time to relax and just enjoy the comfort of Archia Mansion. This day will be yours alone to choose the activities you love most. Weather you feel adventurous and decide to go for a ride with one of the gentle horses of the house, active to play a tennis game or even lazy to spend the day near the pool, this day is all about your body and mind!
And in case you are not done discovering the area, we can still take a last trip to Arboretumul Simeria, a natural reservation that includes the oldest and valuable collection of exotic and indigenous plants in Romania.
The last day will give us the chance to admire once more the landscape that leave Deva behind on our way home. We shall say our goodbyes in the city of departure… until next time!
