Remember when you were a child and your grandmother was waiting for you during your holidays with the tastiest pies in the world?
If you have also read the previous article about Romanian traditions, you already know that August is traditionally called in Romania “Gustar” which can be translated as “tasty”. This is time when all the delicious fruits and vegetables are fully grown and ready to indulge your senses.
Well, this is the perfect moment to bake some cool pies in all kind of mixtures and textures.
We further present an apple pie recipe, but use your imagination! Combine different fruits for all tastes. What’s your favorite flavor?
- 400 ml water
- A pinch of salt
- 2 kg apples
- 5 spoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 5-6 spoon oil
Peal and grate the apples and fry them along with the sugar and cinnamon until they soften. We then put them aside and let them cool. In the meantime, we use water, flour and a pinch of salt in order to obtain a firm yet pliable dough. We split the result in three equal pieces that we stretch on the floury table and take one sheet, on top of which we add the fried apples. Roll the sheet, do the same for the other 2 pieces of dough and arrange them on baking paper, in a tray. We brush a thin layer of oil on each roll and leave in the oven, turned to medium, until they become crispy. We leave them to cool for a bit, sprinkle some powdered sugar, cut in slices and enjoy!
